What do know before you start?
A vision board can be used to answer any questions you may have about yourself. A great way to begin is to explore the question: ‘Who am I at my essence? What are the things that reflect who I am at my core?' This exploration is to be done in a kind and loving way towards self.
Creating a vision board is from the perspective of discovery, not an attempt to find answers. As Esther Hicks (Abraham) has said: “I am where I am, and that’s okay.”
Materials List
· Large chart paper
· Scissors
· Glue
· 5+ magazines (It is helpful if the magazine are ones that you enjoy or reflect an interest.)
· Newspapers
How to select images/words/phrases?
Instead of searching for pictures on specific topics, choose images you are drawn to. Simply flip through magazines or old newspapers and see which images ‘POP’ out at you. Notice. Go with your gut. Take your time. You don’t have to know why certain images or words grab your attention.
Just enjoy cutting, lay them all out, and choose those that appeal to you. Go with your gut. A pattern may develop, now or later, and you can add to or change the pictures on your board as your vision becomes clearer.
Even if you don’t have a lot of photos handy that’s okay too. Words alone can be very powerful, so feel free to use photos, words, symbols of any sort.
How to create your vision board?
1. Keep all your materials ready.
2. Find a safe place where you can put on some music that you find pleasant and soothing, something that filters out distractions, quiets your mind, and makes you feel peaceful.
3. Your vision board tells a story. This vision board asks you: ‘Who am I at my essence? What are the things that reflect who I am at my core?' The images should reflect an aspect of yourself.
4. Go through each page of the magazine or newspaper slowly and see which images or words attracted your attention and cut out those images or words.
5. Once you have collected a large pile of images, now place them on your blank chart paper and begin to stick them as you feel best. There is no right or wrong way. This vision board is uniquely yours. You can also feel free to draw images, words or symbols if inspired.
